The management and control of energy consumption are becoming a more important priority every day, which is why energy and water meters are evolving to meet these needs: better accuracy, multi-hour pricing, possibility of prepayment, possibility of remote reading of consumption. Thanks to the new meters it is possible to establish exact invoices at regular intervals, every month for example, and thus to allow consumers to measure their energy footprint in order to be able to check it and, if necessary, reduce it. If “smart meters” are today essentially electricity meters, meters that can measure water, gas and thermal energy are already available and in use.

Real-time Electricity Consumption Monitoring

The deployment of smart meters should make it possible to better understand the items of electricity consumption and therefore to save money. Real-time monitoring also opens the door to real-time energy billing, but also to differentiated billing according to electricity demand (consumption peaks).
